Pickup Truck Hits 17th Century House That Served As Beverly’s First School

The driver of a pickup truck who lost consciousness inadvertently drove into a 17th century home in Beverly that served as the city’s first schoolhouse, according to the Salem News.

The yellow house at 50 Essex Street was built around 1672. It served as a church and later, in 1716, because Beverly’s school, according to the Salem News.

A contractor who owns the house said major restoration work had recently been completed, but that the pickup truck did so much damage he’s not sure what he’ll do.

Police believe the driver of the pickup truck suffered a medical problem that led him to lose consciousness as he was driving. His injuries from the crash were not considered serious, although he was taken to a hospital.
