Planned Parenthood President Thanks New Hampshire Members of Congress While Stumping Against Title X Cut-Off
April 23, 2019
Planned Parenthood’s national president thanked three members of Congress at a clinic run by the organization in Concord, New Hampshire while criticizing a new federal rule designed to cut off Title X funding to the abortion provider.
“Title X is our nation’s only program that’s dedicated to affordable reproductive health care, which includes primary and preventive services,” said Leana Wen, president of Planned Parenthood, on Monday, April 22, according to The Union Leader.
Title X is a federal program that provides public money to clinics that provide contraception to poor people. Starting Friday, May 3, the Trump administration plans to cut off Title X money to clinics that also perform abortions on site and to clinics that refer patients for abortions. Planned Parenthood does both.
The organization is fighting the proposed rule in federal court. Unless a court intervenes, it takes effect in 10 days.
The Planned Parenthood president was joined by U.S. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, U.S. Representative Annie Kuster, and U.S. Representative Chris Pappas, all Democrats, according to The Union Leader.
