Poll Says More New Hampshire Residents Want Someone Other Than Maggie Hassan As Their Senator

February 12, 2021

Could a Republican win the U.S. Senate race up in New Hampshire next year?

That’s unclear. However, what is clear, according to a poll released by St. Anselm’s earlier this week, is that more people want Democratic Senator Maggie Hassan to leave office than want her to stay in. The poll found that 47 percent of voters want to give someone else a chance while 39 percent say that she deserves another six-year term.

Hassan beat Republican Kelly Ayotte by 1,017 votes in the 2016 general election. Ayotte was the incumbent at the time.

Some argue that the two other candidates in the race, independent conservative Aaron Day and Libertarian Party candidate Brian Chabot, cost Ayotte the election. Combined, they received more than 30,000 votes, according to Ballotpedia.
