Republican Party ‘One of the Most Dangerous Political Movements In The World Today,’ Boston Globe Says

November 6, 2022

The Republican Party in the United States “is actively fanning the flames of the global war on democracy,” said the editorial board of The Boston Globe.

The newspaper’s editorial board called on American voters not to give Republicans control of Congress – as polls suggest is likely to happen in the Tuesday, November 8 general election.

If the GOP takes control, the newspaper said, Republicans will persecute the president’s son Hunter Biden, hamstring investigations into former President Donald Trump’s behavior after the 2020 election, undermine the United States’s support of Ukraine in its war with Russia, coddle “far right” political leaders in Europe, and fail to work with President Biden to deal with the recession “to quickly provide relief to those who need it most.”

The editorial criticizes Republican candidates for questioning or failing to accept the official outcome of the 2020 presidential election. It also links many GOP candidates with the political riot and occupation of the U.S. Capitol that took place after a Trump rally on January 6, 2021.

“This iteration of the Republican Party — with its open disdain for American elections, allegiance with far-right autocratic movements, and cavalier attitude toward political violence — is one of the most dangerous political movements in the world today,” the Boston Globe’s editorial board said.

The editorial was updated on Sunday, November 6, according to the newspaper’s web site.
