Sara Gideon Wins Maine U.S. Senate Democratic Primary — Will Take On Susan Collins In November

It’s now clear who Maine Republican U.S. Senator Susan Collins will be running against this upcoming November.

On Tuesday, Maine Democratic House Speaker Sara Gideon overwhelmingly won her party’s primary. She got 70.2 percent of the vote, defeating Betsy Sweet (23 percent), and Bre Kidman (6.8 percent), as The New York Times reports.

Maine is expected to be a Senate battleground state in this election cycle. It’s a state President Donald Trump lost in 2016, and Collins will be on the ballot with him — although she has no plans to endorse the sitting president.
