Swan Boats Return To Boston Public Garden

April 13, 2019

Saturday, April 13 is day one of the 143rd Swan Boats season on the lagoon of Boston Public Garden.

The Paget family has been operating the Swan Boats, wooden paddle boats with a fiberglass swan in the bow, since 1877. The approximately 10-minute ride circumnavigates the two islands in the lagoon.

The Swan Boats are commonly associated with Robert McCluskey’s 1941 children’s book Make Way for Ducklings, about a mother duck and father duck looking for a place to raise their ducklings.

The Swan Boats operated daily through Labor Day, weather permitting.

Tickets are $4 for adults, $3.50 for senior citizens, $2.50 for children ages 2 to 15, and free for children under 2.
