Trump Dominating Massachusetts Republican Primary, Poll Says

March 2, 2020

A recent poll shows President Donald Trump has a commanding lead in the Massachusetts Republican presidential primary among likely voters.

According to a poll released by WBUR late last month, Trump leads former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld 83 percent to 14 percent. The poll has a 5.1 percent margin of error.

Last time around, Trump won the Republican primary in Massachusetts with 49 percent of the vote.

Among Bay State Republicans, the poll also found that Trump is far more popular than incumbent Governor Charlie Baker. WBUR reports that 82 percent of Republican primary voters view Trump favorably compared to just 50 percent who have a favorable view of Baker.

The poll also found that 63 percent of Massachusetts GOP primary voters thought Trump is a better role model for future Republican leaders than Charlie Baker. Only 27 percent said Baker is a better model than Trump.
