Vermont Democratic Candidate Calls For Mail-In Ballots For All Elections in State

April 26, 2020

A Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor of Vermont is calling for the state to switch to all mail-in ballots.

“Today, I am inviting candidates and elected officials to join me in calling for a move to vote-by-mail in Vermont to ensure we can protect our public health and our democracy,” said Molly Gray, a state assistant attorney general, in a written statement Thursday, April 23.

Supporters of mail-in ballots tout increased access to voting and, more recently, the ability to avoid crowds where coronavirus may be spread.

Opponents say mail-in ballots are prime opportunities for voter fraud since the chain of custody of ballots is broken.

Democrats tend to support mail-in ballots, with exceptions. Republicans, also with exceptions, tend to oppose them.
