Vermont Political Opponents End Debate With A Song
October 14, 2018
A Republican and Democrat running for an open state representative seat in Vermont debated issues at a community forum for about 40 minutes and then ended by singing a song together.
Zac Mayo, a Republican, played guitar while Lucy Rogers, a Democrat, played cello while both sang a mournful dirge called “Society” by Pearl Jam lead singer Eddie Vedder.
According to Seven Days: “Rogers says the two were talking at a Fourth of July parade when they realized they shared a passion for music.”
She emailed her opponent a few days before the debate asking him to do a song together, and he agreed.
Mayo and Rogers are vying for a state House of Representatives district covering the north central Vermont towns of Cambridge and Waterville now held by a retiring Republican.
The video of the song, posted by Seven Days, starts at 45:19 of the video (at -6:36 from the end).
