Wounded Yarmouth Police Dog Recovering

April 15, 2018

A police dog shot and wounded last week is recovering after surgery.

Nero was shot in the face and shoulder on Thursday, April 12 at the same time that his partner, Officer Sean Gannon of the Yarmouth Police Department, was shot and killed.

Gannon and other police officers were attempting to serve a warrant on a career criminal who had violated his probation, police say.

Early Sunday morning the Yarmouth Police Department posted a photo of Nero standing on his paws on the department’s Facebook page. The department also posted a note with the photo:

“OUR FOUR-LEGGED HERO!
The men and women of the Yarmouth Police Department are proud to report that our beloved K9 NERO is back on his feet—FIGHTING back and standing STRONG!”

A wake for Gannon is scheduled for Tuesday, April 17, followed by a funeral Mass in Yarmouth on Wednesday, April 18.
