Associated Press Says Don’t Use ‘Transgenderism’

June 8, 2023

The Associated Press updated its Style Guide to tell its journalists not to use the term “transgenderism.”

The move, reported by The Daily Signal, is to make clear that the term “frames transgender identity as an ideology.”

The Style Guide also tells journalists:  “Avoid references to a transgender person being born a boy or girl, or phrasing like birth gender. Sex assigned at birth is the accurate terminology.”

It goes on to say that “sex is usually assigned at birth by parents or attendants, sometimes inaccurately.”
