Banning Abortion In U.S. Would Be ‘Unchristian,’ Chelsea Clinton Says

September 14, 2018

Chelsea Clinton said Thursday her religious convictions led her to defend Roe v. Wade as consistent with Christianity.

Answering a question about how she keeps herself from exhaustion in her fight to protect abortion rights, Clinton said:

“When I think about all of the statistics [sic] — that are painful — of what women are confronting today in our country, and what even more women confronted pre-Roe and how many women died and how many more women were maimed because of unsafe abortion practices, we just can’t go back to that. That’s unconscionable to me, and also — I’m sure that this will unleash another wave of hate in my direction — but as a deeply religious person, it’s also unchristian to me.”

The daughter of Bill and Hillary Clinton made the remarks during an interview Thursday, September 13 on Signal Boost with Zerlina Maxwell and Jess McIntosh, a radio program available on SiriusXM Progress.
