U.S. Secretary of Labor Gave Billionaire 13 Months for 80 Sex Crimes With Underage Girls
November 29, 2018
Hedge fund billionaire Jeffrey Epstein committed sex crimes against about 80 underage girls in Florida, but the U.S. attorney at the time engineered a plea deal allowing him to serve only 13 months in a private wing of a county jail on two prostitution counts.
That U.S. attorney, Alexander Acosta, is now the U.S. Secretary of Labor under President Donald Trump.
The Miami Herald published on Thursday a long story based on documents and dozens of interviews over a year.
Epstein used teen-age girls from about ages 13 to 16 to give him various degrees of gratification, and used some of them to recruit other girls.
Epstein pleaded guilty to reduced charges in June 2008. But his victims didn’t know about the plea deal because Acosta had agreed to Epstein’s lawyer’s request that the victims not be notified, according to the Miami Herald.
Acosta did not respond to the newspaper’s requests for comment.
