West of Eden — Superheroes Take Over Seaport World Trade Center

Now through Sunday, March 26 Boston’s annual Flower and Garden Show plants a punch of Springtime on the eyes and ears of anyone weary of this winter.   Professional landscape designers have translated this year’s theme of “Superheroes of the Garden” into 17 extravagantly lush scene-stealers.  Their utility belts employ the powers of innovation, a rainbow of planting materials and designs with enough mossy imagination to catapult any would-be troweler into a heightened state of Spring-fever.

Surrounded in technicolor, masterful works by stonemasons interpret fable, romance, and whimsy in structures evocative of Merlin’s magical  “Sword in the Stone,”  a cozy fireside cabana, and the fairy house of Miss Tinker Bell.  Archways, gateways, and pathways lead from horticultural havens into grand floral arrangements, charm-filled window box displays, and free lectures.

The lecture series includes hourly stage demonstrations by noted professionals on how to plant an edible garden, cooking inspirations, and landscaping tips. A $15 fee is required to participate in The Daily Plant-it,  a hands on workshop designed to help participants create a trendy succulent container garden. Also offered at the Flower Show is a Garden Photography Workshop. In partnership with the Boston Society of Landscape Architects, your show snap-shots can be reviewed by an expert with a “green-eye” to make them bloom.

In addition to those power-packed spring-tips a Garden Market Place is on site to amplify the scheme of any digger’s dreams.  Bulbs, flowers, heirloom seeds, and landscape amenities are scattered around displays by amateur green-thumbers, children, and the Massachusetts Horticultural Society to enhance the growing eco-sense of community.

No cape is required to tip-toe through these tulips but super-comfortable shoes are suggested to canvas the concrete floors of Superhero fauna.

The Seaport Trade Center is located at 200 Seaport Boulevard, Boston
