10 Times Stephen Colbert Was Way More Offensive Than a Crude Putin Joke

7.

“Let Us Grasp”

One would think that at least the Bible would be off limits for Colbert’s brand of satire. He has few qualms with mocking religious people, but it seems like even he might draw the line at using sacred Scripture itself to get a few laughs- particularly given how he likes to mention his Christian at every possible moment. However, in his monologue following the inauguration of President Trump, he decided to highlight the quoting of the Book of Solomon in the ceremony’s benediction. The verse reads “let us grasp what is pleasing to you, [Lord].” Colbert, chose to use that line to make a joke about Trump’s horrible comments about women that were unearthed during the campaign. The comments were disgusting, no question. It’s just too bad Colbert opted to bring them up, in the context of a prayer quoting Scripture.
