The Milwaukee police officer who shot a criminal suspect and kicked off days of civil unrest in the city is an aspiring rapper who previously rapped that, “Imma start a riot like it’s Baltimore.”

Dominique Heaggan-Brown, 24, who killed Sylville Smith during a pursuit last Saturday, has been with the Milwaukee Police Department for six years. He has been an officer for three. On the side, Heaggan-Brown also had a music career performing as “KB Domo.”

In 2015, KB Domo appeared with hip-hop artist Dae Flywalker in a freestyle cover of Meek Mill’s song, “Monster.” About 45 seconds into the song, he raps that he’s going to “start a riot like it’s Baltimore.” Just two months before the video’s June 1 release date, Baltimore was rocked by riots stemming from the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody.

Heaggan-Brown apparently got his wish. Since Smith’s death, rioters in Milwaukee have torched several buildings, and some sought to hunt down and attack passing white people.

In a Tuesday interview with the Milwaukee blog Breaking and Entering, Dae Flywalker confirmed Heaggan-Brown is KB Domo, and said he had known the officer since grade school.

“I was in shock and disbelief just like everyone else that knew him or grew up with him,” Flywalker said of the shooting.
