WATCH: ‘Drain the Swamp’ Rally, New Bedford

NEW BEDFORD — Hoisting signs and posters depicting everything from Massachusetts’s most prominent Democrats lounging in a soggy salt marsh to Democratic U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren sporting a Native American headdress, a small but vocal group met up Friday at the foot of the New Bedford Free Public Library — a venue where they knew their voices would be heard. 

That’s because a slate of the state’s leading GOP lawmakers, along with Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson, were due to speak at Friday’s rally, sponsored by local talk radio station AM 1420 WBSM. 

Howie Carr, host of his own popular talk radio show on AM 680 WRKO, kicked things off at noon and would later yield the microphone to state representatives Shaunna O’Connell of Taunton and Geoff Diehl of Whitman:

Hodgson, fresh off of his debate the day before with Somerville Mayor Joe Curtatone and others over immigration policy, reiterated several of the points he made Thursday regarding the legality of sanctuary cities and the elected officials who created them:
