Catholic Action League of Massachusetts Says Joe Biden Responsible For Millions of Abortions In America

How many lives has former vice president Joe Biden taken from this country due to his support for abortion?

A lot, the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts says.

Not only has Biden governed as a pro-abortion politician for decades, but the Catholic Action League argues that one particular decision made by Biden may have resulted in the deaths of millions of children:  his opposition to Robert Bork, a constitutional originalist. The U.S. Senate rejected Bork’s confirmation 42-58 in 1987.

That is because in 1992, Planned Parenthood v. Casey upheld Roe v. Wade in a 5-4 decision. Justice Anthony Kennedy voted to uphold Roe v. Wade, and Kennedy was the justice who got on the Supreme Court because then-President Ronald Reagan’s nomination of Bork was rejected by the Senate. The rejection occurred despite Bork being unanimously confirmed to the United States Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit several years before, in 1982.

The Catholic Action League blames late U.S. Senator Edward Kennedy (D-Massachusetts) and Biden, a Democratic senator from Delaware at the time, for defaming Bork.

“Infamous calumnies, malicious lies and shameless demagoguery were the dishonorable means used by a notorious blackguard — the killer of Mary Jo Kopechne — to defeat the nomination, destroy the good name and end the public career of an honest judge,” the Catholic Action League said in a written statement.

The statement notes that Biden, the U.S. Senate Judiciary Committee chairman at the time, voiced his opposition to Bork before the confirmation hearings began — which it says made Biden an unfair arbiter.

Biden allowed Kennedy to smear Bork, the Catholic Action League says.

“While Kennedy engaged in polemics, it was Biden who quietly lobbied other senators to vote against Bork,” the Catholic Action League says. “Kennedy was the virtuoso, but Biden conducted the orchestra. The modern politicization of Supreme Court nominations began with the smearing of Robert Bork by Joe Biden and Ted Kennedy.”

During the nomination proceedings, Kennedy made many big claims about Bork, including, most famously:

Robert Bork’s America is a land in which women would be forced into back-alley abortions, blacks would sit at segregated lunch counters, rogue police could break down citizens’ doors in midnight raids, schoolchildren could not be taught about evolution, writers and artists could be censored at the whim of the Government, and the doors of the Federal courts would be shut on the fingers of millions of citizens.

The rejection of Bork is something Biden is proud of, although Bork and Bork’s wife felt as though it ruined his career.

During a presidential debate in New Hampshire, Biden said, “I almost single-handedly made sure that Robert Bork did not get on the Court.”

He also took credit for getting pro-abortion justices onto the Supreme Court during that same debate.

“I was part of the reason why Elena Kagan, who worked for me, got on the Supreme Court,” Biden said. “I was part of the reason why Ruth Bader Ginsburg is on the Court. I was part of the reason why Sotomayor was on the Court and she swore me in.”

Bork would later say that a brief written by Biden about Bork’s views so thoroughly misrepresented a plain record that it easily qualifies as world class in the category of scurrility.”

Early this year, Mary Ellen Bork, the widow of Robert Bork, expressed her discontent with the way the hearing went.

“In the course of one week Sen. Biden orchestrated a vicious lying assault and was caught passing off someone else’s words as his own,” she said, according to The Federalist. “Thirty-three years later he is still a man without a compass, guided now by prevailing progressive winds.”

Mrs. Bork was referring to Biden’s use of a British Labor Party leader’s description of his family and upbringing as if they were Biden’s own — including a false claim that Biden was the first in his family ot go to college.

The Catholic Action League notes that as of 1992 — the year the court ruled on Planned Parenthood v. Casey — there had been 24.1 million surgical and so-called medical abortions since the Roe v Wade decision came down in 1973 and that there have been nearly 62 million abortions in the United States overall since the Supreme Court decision. Additionally, the Catholic Action League notes that there have been many more chemical abortions caused by hormonal contraceptives, although “the number is known only to God.”

Since 1992, there have been around 38 million abortions in the United States.

The Catholic Action League says confirming Bork to the high court in 1987 wouldn’t have stopped abortion outright, but it would have saved some lives.

It is speculative to conjecture about how many lives would have been saved had Roe been overturned in the early 1990s. The regulation of abortion would have been returned to the fifty states,” the Catholic Action League said. “Some states would have prohibited or comprehensively restricted abortion, while others would have continued the regime of legalization, lack of restriction and subsidy.”

Undoubtedly, some women would have traveled across state lines or out of the country to get an abortion, the league states, but also wrote, “Nonetheless, it is logical to assume that, if Roe had been undone by Robert Bork 28 years ago, the number of abortions in this country would be less than 62 million, and, in all probability, it would be less by several million.”

The Catholic Action League concluded its statement by reiterating that Biden is among those most responsible for the current situation when it comes to abortion.

Joe Biden and the late Ted Kennedy must be judged, therefore, as two of the most lethal enablers of the mass killing of innocent children in modern history,” the league said.

To answer the question posed at the beginning of this essay: how many abortions is Joe Biden responsible for?” the league added. “We cannot be precise, but the horrific number is likely in seven, and possibly, eight figures. Biden’s hands are drenched in innocent blood which crieth from earth to heaven.”
