Former Vice President Mike Pence called on the U.S. Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade during a speech on Tuesday.

Pence, a conservative Republican who served under former President Donald Trump, gave the speech at an event hosted by the pro-life Susan B. Anthony List a day before the Supreme Court was set to hear oral arguments in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization on Wednesday, December 1. It’s a case that concerns a 2018 Mississippi statute that would ban abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy, except in cases to protect the life of the mother.
With six Republican-appointed justices on the federal Supreme Court and a case involving a pre-viability abortion ban, there is hope among many pro-lifers that this case could overturn Roe v. Wade and give states more authority to regulate abortion.
During his speech, Pence said that the pro-legal-abortion side has been getting more extreme in recent years.
He cited Boston’s new paid abortion leave scheme as an example. It’s something that the mainstream media in Massachusetts ignored and was not picked up on by anyone until NewBostonPost reported in mid-November — nearly two months after Boston’s then-acting mayor Kim Janey signed it into law.
“In Democrat run cities across America, they’re now providing financial incentives for abortion by implementing paid abortion leave,” Pence said during his speech Tuesday, November 30. “In Boston, for example, government employees can receive 12 weeks of paid leave for an abortion — the same benefit provided for childbirth. In days gone by, progressives viewed abortion as a necessary evil to be tolerated. Remember when they used to say abortion should be ‘safe, legal, but rare’? Well, those days are over.”
