If you’ve ever donated money to Massachusetts Governor Maura Healey, you may have helped pay for an abortion.

That’s because she donated $1,918.75 worth of campaign funds to what’s known as an abortion fund in 2023, and $2,100 in 2022 — a combined $4,018.75

An abortion fund is an organization that helps pay for women’s abortions if they’re uninsured or their health insurance plan doesn’t cover abortion. (Medicaid covers abortion in Massachusetts.)

NewBostonPost reviewed Healey’s campaign finances and found that the governor used campaign funds to give money to the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts.

Healey donated $1,168.75 to the fund on August 15, 2023; $750 to it on April 21, 2023; $1,100 on December 1, 2022; and $1,000 on August 30, 2022, according to the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

The organization’s Facebook page says that “ARFWM provides direct financial assistance to people seeking abortions who cannot afford them.”

The Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts also claims that it helps pay for more than 300 abortions annually, according to the National Network of Abortion Funds.

The Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts had no specific comment on the donations from Healey.

“The Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts does not comment on individual donations,” a spokesman for the organization told NewBostonPost by email. “However The Fund is proud of all of our donors, who help to equalize access to abortion healthcare and bring us all closer to the goals of reproductive justice.”

This wasn’t the first time Healey used campaign funds to donate to an abortion fund.

The governor also donated $150 of campaign money to The Jane Fund of Central Massachusetts on January 16, 2020, according to the Massachusetts Office of Campaign and Political Finance.

The Jane Fund’s Facebook page says that it “provides financial help to anyone who cannot afford abortion care.” The organization’s web site says that it funds abortion for women from Central Massachusetts as well as women traveling to Central Massachusetts to have abortions.

Massachusetts Citizens for Life executive director Patricia Stewart condemned Healey’s donations and said politicians should not spend money to end the lives of the unborn.

“How perverse it is for those, seeking to work for all citizens of Massachusetts, to believe they can earn votes by financing the killing of the unborn,” Stewart told NewBostonPost in an email message.

A spokesman for the governor’s office could not be reached for comment on Friday, Saturday, Sunday, or Monday. Nor could the Jane Fund.
