A senior citizen from Kingston, Massachusetts received a two-year prison sentence for her pro-life activities.
Paulette Harlow, 75, was sentenced to 24 months in federal prison on Friday, May 31, for participating in a blockade of an abortion facility in Washington. D.C. on October 22, 2020, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.
A federal court convicted her of violating the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act and of a civil-rights conspiracy in November 2023, the U.S. Department of Justice noted.
Massachusetts Citizens For Life president Myrna Maloney Flynn condemned the decision to send the woman to prison and said she is praying for the people sentenced.
“We await justice for those imprisoned under the FACE Act for protesting peacefully,” Flynn said in a written statement posted to Massachusetts Citizens For Life’sweb site. “And we send prayers for the health and safety of Massachusetts resident Paulette Harlow and all sentenced in this discriminatory, unjust manner.”
The FACE Act (as the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act is commonly known) is a U.S. federal law enacted in 1994 that prohibits using force, threats, or physical obstruction to prevent people from entering abortion facilities and houses of worship. However, it is primarily enforced against pro-life protesters during Democratic administrations.
Along with nine other people, Harlow participated in a blockade of Washington Surgi-Clinic in Washington D.C. in October 2020.
The pro-life protesters sat inside the abortion facility, chained themselves together, prayed, and refused to leave when confronted by police, a video of the event showed.
“Pro-life rescuers are entering the doors of an abortion clinic and saving babies from death. This is very risky for the rescuers, but it’s about time we got serious about ending abortion again,” the video’s description said, according to the report.

Prior to the clinic incursion, the defendants met with other co-conspirators to plan their crime, which included making a fake patient appointment to ensure the group’s entry into the clinic, using chains and locks to barricade the facility and passively resisting their anticipated arrests to prolong the blockade. The clinic invasion was advertised on social media as a “historic” event that was live-streamed on Facebook. The defendants’ forced entry into the clinic at the outset of the invasion resulted in injury to a clinic nurse. During the blockade, one patient had to climb through a receptionist window to access the clinic, while another laid in the hallway outside of the clinic in physical distress, unable to gain access to the clinic.
The protesters entered the abortion clinic in hopes of stopping late-term abortionist Cesare Santangelo, according to Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising, an organization that had members participate in the blockade.
Progressive Anti-Abortion Uprising recovered dead unborn babies that appeared to be in the third trimester from Santangelo’s clinic in March 2022, and Santangelo has been caught saying that he would not help a child born alive if the child survived an abortion attempt.
The Federal Bureau of Inverstigation slammed the pro-lifers who opposed this late-term abortionist.
“Today, the final defendant was sentenced in an elaborate conspiracy by 10 people to intentionally and forcibly block patients and workers from accessing a reproductive health clinic while streaming it live online,” said Michael Nordwall, assistant directorof the FBI’s Criminal Investigative Division, on Tuesday, June 4 in a press release from the federal Department of Justice. “The FBI will not stand for anyone who violates federal laws causing destruction, injury, and violent attacks like this one. We are dedicated to protecting the rights of all Americans to safely access medical services and ensuring providers can perform their duties freely.”
