Massachusetts Republicans React To Trump Tapping J.D. Vance As His Running Mate

Trump running mate J.D. Vance entered the Republican National Convention late Monday afternoon to the sound of Merle Haggard’s “America First” and a resounding reception from delegates.
Former President Donald Trump announced Monday afternoon that Vance is his pick for vice president.
Vance, 39, U.S. senator from Ohio and author of the mega-selling 2016 memoir Hillbilly Elegy, drew applause from many Republicans in Massachusetts.
Emma Foley, a 24-year-old Trump delegate from Brighton, Massachusetts, said that the Vance pick is great news for Catholics and pro-lifers.
“The Biden Department of Justice has persecuted practicing Catholics and pro-life Americans for the past four years — from sending FBI to infiltrate traditionalist parishes to selectively administering the FACE Act — all the while touting their boss’s Catholic heritage,” the former digital managing editor for the Howie Carr Radio Network told NewBostonPost via email. “Trump’s selection of Senator J.D. Vance, a Catholic convert and A+ on the Susan B. Anthony List, is a message to American Catholics: I have not forgotten about you, and I will fight for you.”
Former Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson, a Trump delegate and the chairman of Trump’s Massachusetts campaign, also gave his approval to the Vance pick.
“The selection of J.D Vance in my view, is a great selection,” Hodgson told NewBostonPost by email. “The President’s decision invites a new generation of leadership and perspective to his administration that can only be beneficial to President Trump when he makes policy decisions to benefit the American people. President Trump recognizes the value of choosing someone for this role who has achieved great success by working through and overcoming challenges along life’s journey. J.D. Vance has a profile that does just that.”
East Bridgewater Republican Town Committee chairman Myles Heger said he is happy that Trump picked a younger running mate.
“As a millennial, focused on the future, it’s refreshing to see 39-year-old JD Vance as Donald Trump’s running mate,” Heger told NewBostonPost in an email message. “Vance will be able to carry the torch for younger generations looking for a better country to continue to prosper. Since 2016 Donald Trump has fought day in, and day out for ALL Americans to be better off. He has fought biased media, corrupt self-serving Politicians, a planned pandemic, bogus impeachments, ridiculous court cases, and a near assassination. Yet, he has never wavered, while the left has propped up a weak shell of a human being. We must ALL support Strength and prosperity, that’s why I will be walking through Hell or High Water to support Donald Trump for a 3rd time in November.”
Geoff Diehl, the former state representative from Whitman and Republican nominee for Governor of Massachusetts in 2022, said that Vance is just what the ticket needed.
“The selection of Senator Vance by President Trump to become his VP represents not only a linking of kindred spirits when it comes to reining in a federal government that is completely out of control and unresponsive to the needs of its citizens, but it also provides the Republican party with a strong standard-bearer for the conservative movement of individual freedom and accountability, once Trump has served his final four years,” Diehl told NewBostonPost via email.
Diehl called Vance “A self-made man” and touted his military service, which includes a stint in Iraq as a public affairs spokesman for the United States Marine Corps.
“… J.D. put himself through college and Yale law school, wrote a best-selling autobiography that was made into an award-winning movie and is married with three children — you just can’t imagine someone who represents the American dream better and I think that everybody will find something in his life story that allows them to feel like his leadership truly represent their interests. I’m excited for the Trump/Vance ticket and I look forward to hearing the message that they carry into the final months of the campaign.”
State Representative David DeCoste (R-Norwell) praised Vance for his military service.
“If elected he’ll be the first Marine to also serve as the US Vice President, and the first combat veteran since George H.W. Bush,” DeCoste noted on Facebook.
Additionally, former Abington selectman and current Republican state committeeman Alex Hagerty said he thinks Trump-Vance is a winning ticket.
“President Trump has selected his running mate, Ohio U.S. Senator JD Vance!” Hagerty posted on Facebook. “Congratulations to the next Vice President of the United States of America, J.D. Vance! Let’s win the White House back in November!”
The Walpole Republican Town Committee, chaired by Grace Lincoln, said Vance looks out for the working man.
“Vice President of the United States is Senator J.D. Vance of the Great State of Ohio,” the Walpole Republican Town Committee said in a Facebook post. “J.D. honorably served our Country in the Marine Corps, graduated from Ohio State University in two years, Summa Cum Laude, and is a Yale Law School Graduate, where he was Editor of The Yale Law Journal, and President of the Yale Law Veterans Association. J.D.’s book, ‘Hillbilly Elegy,’ became a Major Best Seller and Movie, as it championed the hardworking men and women of our Country. J.D. has had a very successful business career in Technology and Finance. GOD BLESS THIS TICKET. GOD BLESS AMERICA.”
Former state representative and past Massachusetts Republican Party chairman Jim Lyons also voiced his approval.
“Make America Great Again,” Lyons posted on Facebook, along with a picture of Trump and Vance.
