(The Center Square) – Former President Donald Trump said President Joe Biden, his political rival for the past four years, never had a chance of winning in November.

Trump’s comments Sunday came after Biden dropped out of the presidential race.

“Crooked Joe Biden was not fit to run for President, and is certainly not fit to serve – And never was!” the 45th president wrote on Truth Social. “He only attained the position of President by lies, Fake News, and not leaving his Basement. All those around him, including his Doctor and the Media, knew that he wasn’t capable of being President, and he wasn’t.”

Trump also blamed Biden for problems with illegal immigration.

“And now, look what he’s done to our Country, with millions of people coming across our Border, totally unchecked and unvetted, many from prisons, mental institutions, and record numbers of terrorists,” Trump wrote. “We will suffer greatly because of his presidency, but we will remedy the damage he has done very quickly. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!”

Trump’s vice presidential running mate, U.S. Senator J.D. Vance of Ohio, also weighed in on social media.

“President Trump and I are ready to save America, whoever’s at the top of the Democrat ticket. Bring it on,” Vance wrote on X. “Joe Biden has been the worst President in my lifetime and Kamala Harris has been right there with him every step of the way.”

Biden announced Sunday, July 21 that he would be dropping out of the 2024 presidential race and endorsed Harris.

Biden’s announcement opened the door for Vice President Kamala Harris or another Democrat to replace him atop the ticket. Biden’s seat in the race grew white-hot after a poor performance during a debate with Trump on Thursday, June 27.

In a written statement posted to social media, Biden said he was stepping aside “in the “best interest of my party and the country.”

“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President,” Biden said. “And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as president for the remainder of my term.”
