Federal immigration authorities recently apprehended an 18-year-old Haitian illegal immigrant charged with sexually assaulting a child in Massachusetts.

Offices from the Boston field office of Enforcement and Removal Operations arrested Akim Marc Desire in Attleboro on Friday, August 30, according to a press release from U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

“Akim Marc Desire allegedly victimized a minor member of our Massachusetts community,” said Todd Lyons, director of Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston, in the written statement Wednesday, September 4. “We cannot tolerate such potentially dire threat to the welfare of children in our community. ERO Boston will continue to prioritize public safety by arresting and removing egregious noncitizen offenders from our New England neighborhoods.”

Although Desire entered the country legally on June 4, 2023, he later violated the terms of his legal entry.

Local police in Mansfield arrested him on Wednesday, August 28 and charged him with indecent assault and battery on a child under 14. Shortly after his arrest, Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston lodged an immigration detainer with the Mansfield Police Department.

He was arraigned on Thursday, August 29 in Attleboro District Court.

Officers from Enforcement and Removal Operations arrested Desire at Attleboro District Court on Friday, August 30. The officers also served him with a notice to appear before a U.S. Department of Justice immigration judge; Desire was still in federal custody as of Wednesday, September 4.

Massachusetts Republican Party chairman Amy Carnevale said the incident is an example of how liberal lawmakers fail Massachusetts.

Here is what she said in a press release issued by the MassGOP:

This incident is vile. I am appalled by the utter failure of the Biden-Harris Administration’s immigration policies and the cowardice displayed by the Democratic supermajority in Massachusetts for not doing more to protect our residents from predators who are in the Commonwealth illegally. The Biden-Harris Administration’s reckless approach to the border crisis has led to assaults across the country.

This is just one incident that we know of. Due to the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s veil of secrecy surrounding the migrant crisis, residents remain in the dark about 600 incidents involving police, fire, and EMS services at taxpayer-funded emergency housing for migrants. These crimes are serious, this crisis is serious, and it’s entirely reasonable for residents to fear that the situation is worse than what we currently know. The Healey-Driscoll Administration must be transparent with their constituents and release the unredacted documents regarding the incidents that have occurred in emergency housing.

Massachusetts has seen an influx of migrants from all over the globe, but primarily from Haiti, due to its right-to-shelter law.

The 1983 statute guarantees emergency assistance shelter at the taxpayer’s expense for families and pregnant women.

Roughly half of the people staying in the state’s emergency shelter system now are migrants (including some illegal immigrants). However, when initially created over 40 years ago, the shelter system primarily benefitted people with special needs, as NewBostonPost has previously reported.

Another illegal Haitian migrant has been charged with raping a minor this past March at the Comfort Inn in Rockland, which is being used as a migrant shelter, as NewBostonPost previously reported.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement encourages people with tips about illegal immigrant crime to contact 866-DHS-2-ICE (866-347-2423) or to complete the online tip form.
