Why You Should Go See Matt Walsh’s Am I Racist?

Conservatives made a movie, and not only is it compelling and funny, but it’s doing relatively well at the box office.

Am I Racist?, a film starring Matt Walsh of The Daily Wire, produced by his employer, came in fifth at the box office this past weekend. It made $4.7 million on a $3 million budget, meaning it’s well on its way to being a commercial success. (Movies typically need to make 2.5 times their budget at the box office to turn a profit.)

Walsh makes a mockery of the diversity, equity, and inclusion industry and exposes it as yet another exercise in capitalism. Walsh does so by attending and hosting seminars hosted by race hustlers (who charge absurd sums for their services), and conducting interviews with them — often wearing a low-effort disguise. He even receives a DEI certification — which he carries proudly — and discusses race with various Americans of various races.

One of the most publicized scenes in the movie involves him interviewing Robin DiAngelo, the author of White Fragility. It’s a book written by an exceptionally woke white woman about how she thinks all white Americans are racist. Not only does Walsh manage to out-woke her during the interview, but he also convinces her to pay his black producer cash reparations on the spot:  a whopping $30. It came after Walsh paid the man a similarly low sum and insisted she do the same under the guise that they shouldn’t wait around for the system to pay reparations when they could act as individuals and make an immediate impact. For those who support reparations, it apparently seems like sound logic, though it highlights the absurdity of reparations:  people who never owned slaves pay money to people who never were slaves.

The cameo went so well for DiAngelo that she deactivated her X (formerly Twitter) account. Well done, Matt Walsh.

The best part is:  that’s not even the craziest thing that happens in the movie. Without spoiling it, the DEI-certified Walsh hosting a DEI workshop somehow gets even weirder than that.

The liberal elite in this country deserve mockery, as liberals dominate the entertainment industry and regularly use it to mock conservatives. Think of all of the lame late-night so-called comedy shows and other television programs that mock conservatives. (Well-documented by the Media Research Center at NewsBusters.) We rarely see them mocking their own side, even though plenty of material exists. There’s a real opportunity to mock people who hate their own race and who think men can get pregnant. Someone needs to capitalize on these absurdities — and between Am I Racist? and What Is A Woman?, Walsh’s 2022 documentary released online, Walsh is proving he is the man for the job. It would be great if others did the same, but Walsh’s success in doing so is a start.

As conservatives, we should offer our support for this movie, not only because it’s a well-made film, but also because of capitalism.  If the movie turns a profit, then The Daily Wire will have an incentive to produce more of these documentaries for release in mainstream movie theaters, providing reach to those who don’t read conservative news sites or listen to conservative podcasts.

Fortunately, it looks like Am I Racist? will net The Daily Wire several million dollars, since movies typically make about one-third of their total box office revenue in the opening weekend, and the production’s break-even point for this one is likely around $7.5 million.

Given the success of this film, Walsh should start thinking about the topic for his next film. Maybe a movie about transgender athletes or modern academia could be his next hit.
