Massachusetts Republican Party Passes Resolution Opposing Males In Women’s Sports
By Tom Joyce | December 10, 2024, 20:28 EST
The Massachusetts Republican Party recently took a symbolic stand against males in women’s sports.
The MassGOP state committee passed “A resolution to protect girls and empower women in sports” at its December 4, 2024, meeting at AC Hotel in Worcester. The measure passed unanimously: 53-0.
The resolution makes clear that the party opposes males competing in women’s sports and wants to eliminate the practice in Massachusetts.
“The Massachusetts Republican Party affirms that there are male and female sexes at birth, opposes the participation of biological males in female sports, celebrates the impact of women in sports in culture in the U.S.A., recognizes the importance of Title IX, and calls on Massachusetts Governor Healey to protect biological women and girls in sports and activities,” the resolution concludes.
Two members of the Republican State Committee introduced the resolution together: Former Abington selectman Alex Hagerty, Republican state committeeman for the Norfolk and Plymouth District; Chris Ryan of Amherst, who represents the Hampshire, Franklin & Worcester District.
A June 2023 Gallup poll found that 69 percent of Americans think people should compete on sports teams that align with their sex, not their self-selected gender identity.
Massachusetts has seen male athletes win state championships in field hockey, girls’ gymnastics, and girls’ indoor track and field in the past five years, as NewBostonPost has reported. They have also stood out in sports like girls’ volleyball, girls’ basketball, girls’ soccer, and girls’ swimming, among others. Plus, male athletes have caused injuries to Massachusetts girls in sports like field hockey and girls’ basketball, as NewBostonPost has also reported.
The Massachusetts Democratic Party and Governor Healey’s office could not be reached for comment on Tuesday.

Protecting Girls and Empowering Women in Sports
December 4, 2024A RESOLUTION TO PROTECT GIRLS AND EMPOWER WOMEN IN SPORTS
WHEREAS: This Resolution is entirely consistent with President Trump’s “Agenda 47” and specifically line numbers 16 and 17 of the twenty-point Republican National Committee’s (RNC) Platform approved at the Republican National Convention, and
WHEREAS: On June 23, 1972, Republican U.S. President Richard Nixon signed into federal law, Title IX of the Education Amendments Act of 1972, and
WHEREAS: Title IX enshrined into federal law, “no person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving federal financial assistance,” and
WHEREAS: The participation of men and boys in women and girls’ sports is a potential source of great physical, emotional, and financial harm to female athletes and their families, and
WHEREAS: For 52 years, Title IX provided federal support of girls in sports and activities, helping inspire generations of strong girls and women to excel in sports culture in our Commonwealth, our nation, and around the globe at the Olympics, and
WHEREAS: Universally, a person’s sex is recognized based solely on a person’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth. There are fundamental biological differences between men and women that put women at a competitive disadvantage in sports between male and female, and jeopardize the safety of women during competition, and
WHEREAS: Under the Biden-Harris administration, Title IX — which was instituted to protect biological women and girls in sports — has been put in jeopardy. The Biden-Harris administration and Democrat Governors such as Governor Maura Healey support biological men competing in women’s sports, and
WHEREAS: Since 2003, biological men have displaced women and girls from over 950 championship titles, medals, scholarships, and records they should have rightfully won, including at least 28 women’s sports titles in volleyball, swimming, mountain biking, track and field, weightlifting, and cycling, and
WHEREAS: Massachusetts Democrats allowing transgender women to compete in women’s sports is discriminatory against female athletes and an attack on women’s rights and equal protections in our society, and
WHEREAS: Strong girls become strong women and strong women become strong leaders,
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED:
The Massachusetts Republican Party affirms that there are male and female sexes at birth, opposes the participation of biological males in female sports, celebrates the impact of women in sports in culture in the U.S.A., recognizes the importance of Title IX, and calls on Massachusetts Governor Healey to protect biological women and girls in sports and activities.

Chris Ryan and Alex Hagerty
