January 13, 2023

Former Boston city councilor Andrea Campbell is set to become the attorney general of Massachusetts next week.

Campbell, a Democrat, defeated Republican Party state committeeman Jay McMahon of Bourne 63 percent to 37 percent in the November 2022 general election.

Campbell is set to take office as the state’s attorney general on Wednesday, January 18, according to Boston.com.

The state currently has an interim attorney general:   Bessie Dewar. She has been the state solicitor of Massachusetts since 2016.

Governor Maura Healey previously served as the state’s attorney general for eight years. However, she vacated the seat on January 5, 2023, to take over as governor of Massachusetts.
