Ayanna Pressley Affirms ‘Black Babies Are Beautiful,’ Instructs Crowd To ‘Stay Woke’ At NAACP Convention

July 31, 2023

The 114th National Association for the Advancement of Colored People Convention took place over the weekend, during which U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Hyde Park) gave a speech her office called a “love letter to Black Boston.”

During the speech Saturday, July 29, Pressley mentioned several sub-categories of black people she said matter, including “black babies.”

“Black babies are beautiful, our crowns are beautiful, and Black mamas matter,” Pressley said.

Pressley is an enthusiastic supporter of abortion. In February 2023, she called abortion “routine health care.” In June 2023, she called the Dobbs decision that overturned Roe v. Wade in June 2022 “unconscionable” and said subsequent state laws restricting or prohibiting abortion have “exacerbated many of the inequities and disparities that harm our most vulnerable communities,” including blacks.

During her NAACP convention speech this past Saturday, Pressley called for enacting several policies, including cancelling student debt and providing reparations for descendants of slaves.

At the close of the speech, Pressley warned about those she opposes.

“In 2023, they seek to weaponize what it is to be woke. They want to lull us into permanent sleep state with their draconian policy violence and their scarcity budgets,” Pressley said.

“NAACP, stay Black, stay woke, and remain vigilant,” Pressley instructed the crowd, according to her office’s transcript of her remarks.
