Ayanna Pressley Calls On Federal Government To Stop Deporting Haitians

July 15, 2021

If you’re from Haiti and you’re not supposed to be in the United States, then U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Dorchester) doesn’t want you deported.

Haitian president Jovenel Moïse was assassinated last week. As a result, Pressley was among a group of Congressmen who sent a letter Thursday, July 15 to U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas calling for a change to this country’s immigration policy.

“In the midst of this turmoil, DHS must finally halt all deportations of Haitian migrants amid this political crisis and the continued spread of COVID-19,” the letter reads, according to MassLive. “Since the start of the Biden Administration, more than 2,000 Haitian migrants have been deported. Specifically, the Biden Administration’s continued use of the Trump era ‘Title 42’ policy has resulted in unjust removals and expulsions of Haitian asylum seekers.”
