Ayanna Pressley Not Endorsing In Boston Mayoral Race — Yet

September 23, 2021

Whom will U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Dorchester) endorse in the Boston mayoral race?

The former city councilor knows both the candidates in the race, city councilors Annissa Essaibi George and Michelle Wu, but she’s not saying which of them she prefers.

“When there is something to share, I will call you,” Pressley told GBH News.

Pressley didn’t make an endorsement in the September 14 preliminary election.

However, she told GBH News after the election that she was impressed by the black candidates in the race.

“I think it’s important to sit in the victory and acknowledge that three tremendously qualified, thoughtful, dynamic Black candidates were in this field,” Pressley said. “Each of them offered a vision for this city and they spoke directly, really, to some of the most pressing issues facing our communities as well as amplifying issues oft-ignored.”

Neither of the two finalists is black. Wu’s parents were born in Taiwan. Essaibi George’s mother is Polish, while her father is Tunisian.
