Ayanna Pressley Says She Previously Defaulted On Student Loan Debt
February 23, 2021
It turns out U.S. Representative Ayanna Pressley (D-Dorchester) had a hard time paying back her student loans.
Without going into much detail about it, the Boston University alum made this revelation in a press conference hosted by the American Federation of Teachers, first reported by Yahoo.
“Like 85% of Black students, I had to borrow; and like so many of those students, I also defaulted on those loans,” Pressley said Wednesday, February 10 during an online presentation called “A New Deal for Higher Education.” “We know that Black and Brown students are five times more likely to default for those loans, than our white counterparts.”
Pressley wants President Joe Biden’s administration to cancel up to $50,000 of student loan debt per person.
