Bernie Sanders Hasn’t Announced If He’ll Seek Re-Election Yet

March 4, 2024

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) is up for re-election this year — if he decides to run again.

The 82-year-old self-described democratic socialist has not yet announced whether or not he will seek re-election, according to The Washington Post.

Allies of Sanders are hopeful that he will seek re-election, according to the report. If he does, he will most likely win his re-election bid.

Sanders unsuccessfully sought the Democratic Party’s nomination for president in 2016 and 2020.

While Sanders is an independent, he caucuses in the U.S. Senate with the Democrats.

Sanders represents the Class 1 U.S. Senate seat in Vermont. A Democrat has never been elected to the seat Sanders now holds — Vermont was a bastion of Republicanism from shortly after the creation of the party in the 1850s until about the 1980s.
