Bernie Sanders Open To Endorsing Against Kyrsten Sinema

February 2, 2023

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) may work against one of his Senate colleagues who caucuses with the Democratic Party.

Sanders said he is open to backing U.S. Representative Ruben Gallego (D-Arizona) in his 2024 U.S. Senate bid instead of U.S. Senator Kyrsten Sinema (I-Arizona).

“I’ve not heard from Gallego, but it’s something we would certainly look into,” Sanders told Politico in a recent interview.

Gallego, a progressive Democrat, is running regardless of whether or not Sinema chooses to run for re-election.

Sinema, who was considered a moderate Democrat, left the party in December 2022 but continues to caucus with the Democrats.

The Democratic Party has a 51-49 majority in the U.S. Senate.
