Bernie Sanders Says He Was One Of The Worst Waiters In America
March 5, 2021
U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont) wants to raise the minimum wage for tipped employees, and made a revelation about his past when speaking about it on the U.S. Senate floor on Thursday.
Sanders said he wants to raise the minimum wage from tipped workers from $2.13 an hour to $14.95 an hour over seven years — close to the $15 minimum wage he supports for other workers. (Minimum wage is typically lower in certain service industries such as waiting tables because waiters and waitresses get tips from customers.)
And of his own experience in the food service industry, according to The Hill, he said: “I was one of the worst waiters in the history of the country, but I was a waiter a long time ago, I know a little bit about it.”
