Boston Herald Files For Bankruptcy, Sells To GateHouse Media

GateHouse Media, which publishes dozens of weekly newspapers and a handful of daily newspaper in Massachusetts, has purchased The Boston Herald for $5 million from longtime owner Patrick Purcell. GateHouse says it plans to keep 175 of the current 228 employees; the sale is subject to court approval.
