Boston To Allow Sidewalk Dining Next Month — Or Sooner

There will be expanded outdoor dining in Boston next month, if the weather allows for it.

This winter, Boston has not allowed restaurants to serve customers on public property — specifically, sidewalks — but Mayor Marty Walsh said in a press conference on Monday, March 1 that this policy will change on April 1 — or sooner.

“We will once again be restricting parking and closing certain streets to open up spaces for outdoor dining,” Walsh said, according to WCVB. “We’ll have more details on specific streets in the coming weeks.”

So far, there have been more than 370 applications from Boston restaurants to have outdoor dining on public property and the state has approved more than 150 of those.
