Cambridge Effectively Decriminalizes Magic Mushrooms

The War on Drugs just got a little smaller in Cambridge, Massachusetts this week.

On Monday, the city council voted 8-1 in favor of making arrests for entheogenic plants “amongst the lowest law enforcement priority” and calling on the Middlesex County District Attorney to stop prosecutions regarding such hallucinogens. As a result, the measure all but decriminalizes mushrooms, cacti, and ayahuasca in the city.

Cambridge becomes the second city in the state to change its policy in this way when it comes to mushrooms. Somerville was the first, as Cambridge Day reports.

The drugs are still illegal at the state and federal levels.
