Charlie Baker Left Office With High Approval Rating — But Not The Highest

January 19, 2023

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker did not leave office as the most popular governor in America, but he was up there, according to a recent Morning Consult poll.

The poll found that the former Republican governor of Massachusetts had a 73 percent approval rating, while 20 percent of Bay Staters disapprove of Baker.

This put him third in the country in terms of approval ratings, behind Vermont Republican Governor Phil Scott (81 percent approve, 14 percent disapprove), and Wyoming Republican Governor Mark Gordon (77 percent approve, 20 percent disapprove).

Baker served as governor for two terms. He was first elected in 2014 and ran for re-election in 2018. Massachusetts does not have term limits for governors, but he chose not to seek re-election in 2022.

The poll is based on the governor’s approval rating in the fourth quarter of 2022.
