Charlie Baker Will Pick Rachael Rollins’s Replacement As Suffolk County District Attorney

July 27, 2021

President Joe Biden’s administration nominated Rachael Rollin, the left-leaning district attorney of Suffolk County, to serve U.S. Attorney for Massachusetts.

The question now is: who will replace her, if the U.S. Senate confirms her?

Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker gets to decide that. Baker has the power to appoint someone to fill the rest of her term, and then there will be an election in 2022 to determine a more permanent replacement.

So will Baker pick a conservative? Don’t count on it. Baker asked Rollins to recommend three people as potential replacements, Politico reported on Tuesday, July 27.

Whomever Baker appoints could have a decent chance of winning the November 2022 election as an incumbent.
