Chris Sununu Wants Occupational Licensing Reform For New Hampshire

February 16, 2023

Occupational licensing is one of New Hampshire Governor Chris Sununu’s priorities this year.

Sununu said he wants to eliminate 34 occupational licensing requirements in his state, calling them outdated.

“The state doesn’t license the contractor who frames your house, but for some reason, we license the person who plants a rosebush in your front yard. Not anymore,” Sununu said this week, according to WMUR.

The complete list of licenses that Sununu wants to eliminate has not yet been made public.

Sununu also wants his state to recognize occupational licenses from the 49 other states as valid in New Hampshire.

“If a small business owner needs a license to do their job or operate their business in their current state, New Hampshire will recognize their license here, incentivizing working professionals across the nation to move to New Hampshire,” Sununu said.
