Connecticut Legalizes Marijuana

June 23, 2021

Recreational marijuana will soon be legal in Connecticut.

The state’s Democratic governor, Ned Lamont, signed a bill on Tuesday, June 22 to make his state the 19th in the country to legalize recreational use of marijuana. Starting on July 1, 2021, Connecticut residents will be legally allowed to consume and possess marijuana, according to NPR.

“We had a chance to learn from others, and I think we’ve got it right here in the state of Connecticut,” Lamont said, according to NPR. “Maybe we weren’t the first but we were the first, I think, to show that we can get it right.”

It’s unclear when any recreational marijuana dispensaries will open in the state.
