Democratic Socialist Jordan Meehan Loses Tight Race In Brighton and Allston State Rep Primary

September 2, 2020

Jordan Meehan ran a competitive race, but it wasn’t enough to take down an incumbent.

The self-identified democratic socialist and the current policy coordinator of the Massachusetts Commission on LGBTQ Youth (a state agency) unsuccessfully squared off against incumbent state Representative Kevin Honan (D-Brighton) in the 17th Suffolk District (which covers the Allston and Brighton neighborhoods of Boston).

Honan, a member of the Massachusetts Legislature since 1987, got 54.2 percent of the vote to Meehan’s 45.8 percent, as the Associated Press reports.

Meehan will likely go on to win the general election. He is not facing a Republican on the ballot this upcoming November.
