DOJ Wants Boston Marathon Bomber To Get The Death Penalty (Again)

June 15, 2021

The U.S. Department of Justice wants the Boston Marathon bomber dead.

The department asked the U.S. Supreme Court to reinstate the death penalty for Dzhokar Tsarnaev, calling the Boston Marathon Bombings “one of the worst” acts of terrorism in the United States since 9/11, as NBC Boston reports.

The federal First Circuit Court of Appeals vacated Tsarnaev’s death sentence last year. The Justice Department’s request comes despite President Joe Biden’s personal opposition to capital punishment.

The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear the case in the fall of 2021 and will likely make a decision on it in the summer of 2022. If he doesn’t receive the death penalty, Tsarnaev will get a life sentence.
