Donors’ Unhappiness With Harvard’s Tepid Response To Hamas Attack On Israel Hitting University Where It Hurts

November 29, 2023

Harvard officials are worried that longtime heavy-hitters will stop donating to Harvard because of the university’s tepid response to Hamas’s attack on Israel on October 7.

“Everyone’s concerned about it,” said Kenneth Lipper, a Harvard Law School graduate and former deputy mayor of New York City who has given millions to Harvard, according to The Harvard Crimson.

The student newspaper identified five donors who expressed similar concerns.

Bill Ackman, a billionaire hedge fund manager who graduated from Harvard College in 1988, has repeatedly criticized Harvard on the online platform formerly known as Twitter.

Ackman is a longtime supporter and financial backer of Democrats.

The worries about donations come at a time when Harvard’s kitty has been shrinking.

In October, Harvard University reported that its endowment decreased for the second year in a row – to $50.7 billion.
