Dracut Selectman Candidate Pledges Food Bank Donations For Facebook Likes

May 2, 2024

A candidate for selectman in Dracut has made a campaign promise:  the more followers he gets on Facebook, the more he will donate to the Dracut Food Pantry.

Dave Martin made the announcement via a press release this week.

“Food insecurity is a major issue quietly affecting every community in Massachusetts,” Martin said in the written statement. “As your next Dracut Selectman, I will make this issue one of my top priorities. To show how dedicated I am to this issue, I am willing to put my money where my mouth is. For every real person who follows my Facebook page, I will make a $5 donation with my personal funds to the Dracut Food Pantry. I will continue this until I reach 1,000 page followers, or until polls close this Saturday, whichever comes first.”

Martin’s Facebook page had 404 followers as of Wednesday morning, May 1.

Martin, a former town moderator, is one of three candidates for selectman running in the annual town election on Saturday, May 4. He is running against town Community Preservation Committee chairman Don Plummer and community activist Josh Taylor.
