Ed Markey Endorses A Democratic Socialist For Congress

July 9, 2021

She was the co-chairman of the presidential campaign of a self-described democratic socialist.

Now, she has the endorsement of a United States senator from Massachusetts.

Nina Turner is a candidate for Congress in Ohio’s 11th district special election this year. She served as the national co-chairman of the 2020 presidential campaign of U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders (I-Vermont). In her run for Congress, she picked up an endorsement from U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-Malden) this week.

“There is only one climate champion in the race to represent Ohio’s 11th Congressional district — @ninaturner,” Markey tweeted. “Our intersecting crises must be met with ambitious solutions. Nina Turner is the kind of progressive we need in Congress to get things done.”

Turner also described herself as a democratic socialist in a 2018 interview with Jacobin.

“In terms of my own philosophy about democratic socialism, if democratic socialism means Medicare for All, if it means making sure that we reform the criminal justice system; if it means that a mother doesn’t have to cry herself to sleep at night knowing that her son was born with a congenital heart problem and it’s hard for her to get him health care; if it means making sure that people have a living wage in this country — if that’s what it means to be a democratic socialist, then I am one,” Turner said at the time.

New to NewBostonPost?  Conservative media is hard to find in Massachusetts.  But you’ve found it.  Now dip your toe in the water for two bucks — $2 for two months.  And join the real revolution.
