Elizabeth Warren Endorses Ilhan Omar’s Re-Election Bid

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren endorsed a self-described democratic socialist’s re-election campaign over the weekend.

Warren put out a Facebook post announcing her endorsement of U.S. Representative Ilhan Omar (D-Minnesota) in Minnesota’s fifth congressional district.

“Today I’m endorsing my colleague Ilhan Omar in her re-election campaign,” Warren’s post states. “From tackling the climate crisis to putting power in the hands of the people, Ilhan is a partner in the fight for big structural change.”

Omar has several primary challengers in the upcoming Tuesday, August 11 primary:  Les Lester, John Mason, Daniel Patrick McCarthy, and Antone Melton-Meaux.

Melton-Meaux, a lawyer, earned the Minneapolis Star-Tribune‘s endorsement in the race.

Both are left-wing Democrats, but unlike Omar, Melton-Meaux does not support de-funding the police.
