Elizabeth Warren Says She Is ‘Mad As Hell’

May 9, 2022

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Cambridge) isn’t happy that the U.S. Supreme Court apparently plans to overturn Roe v. Wade next month, sending abortion law back to the states.

Warren has made that clear several times over the past week, including on Twitter over the weekend.

“The Supreme Court is poised to overturn #RoeVWade and I’m mad as hell,” Warren tweeted. “But I’m also determined. I’m going to keep fighting as hard as I can to protect abortion rights.”

Federal legislation affecting abortion would need 60 votes in the U.S. Senate to pass, because a filibuster from 41 or more senators could prevent a vote on a bill.

Only 52 U.S. Senators describe themselves as in favor of legal abortion:  every Democrat except U.S. Senator Joe Manchin of West Virginia, and three Republicans. Those three pro-legal-abortion Republicans are:  Susan Collins of Maine, Lisa Murkowski of Alaska, and Shelley Moore Capito of West Virginia.
