Elizabeth Warren Says Trump Would Sign Abortion Gestational Limit, After J.D. Vance Says He Wouldn’t
August 28, 2024
U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Cambridge) thinks the American people shouldn’t believe vice presidential candidate J.D. Vance when he said former President Donald Trump would veto a federal gestational limit on abortion if it came to his desk.
“American women are not stupid, and we are not going to trust the futures of our daughters and granddaughters to two men who have openly bragged about blocking access to abortion for women all across this country,” Warren told NBC News during an interview on Sunday, August 25.
Vance, a Republican U.S. senator from Ohio and Trump’s running mate, on Saturday, August 24 said during an interview that Trump would veto a federal ban on abortion if he is elected to a second non-consecutive term as president in November 2024.
The chances of a federal gestational limit reaching the president’s desk are virtually non-existent, as it would require 60 pro-life votes in the United States Senate to overcome a filibuster by a single senator. The GOP currently has 49 U.S. senators, 46 of which identify as pro-life.
