Elizabeth Warren Wants To Expand The U.S. Supreme Court

June 14, 2022

U.S. Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Cambridge) wants to expand the federal Supreme Court so the Democratic Party can re-gain a majority of justices.

Mitch McConnell packed the Supreme Court to advance an extreme agenda,” Warren recently tweeted. “If we want to rebalance this institution and defend our basic rights, we must #ExpandTheCourt.”

Currently, six of the nine justices were appointed by Republicans while three were appointed by Democrats.

Warren isn’t the only federal senator from Massachusetts who wants to expand the court. U.S. Senator Ed Markey (D-Malden) has spoken in favor of adding four more justices to the Supreme Court to give Democrats a 7-6 majority.

Democrats currently control the White House and the U.S. Senate. The president nominates justices, which the the Senate confirms or rejects them.
